I'm pulling a #4 cylinder misfire code (P0304) on my 2001 Tribute V-6 (same as Ford Escape). It stumbles at times, but is very intermittant. I clear the fault code and it may not come on for a week. I'm thinking it's a faulty coil (coil-on-plug type) or injector problem. Mazda has a TSB relating to a leaking heater hose in this area, but that looks OK.

Anyone else run into this problem?

You might want to pull a couple of plugs on that side and inspect them. If you have a fouled or weak plug that will give you a misfire. Drop a can of injector cleaner in the tank, and run it for a few days, if an injector is dirty that will clean it out. My son has a Chevy V6 and lost an injector. Without the test equipment we could not find it very easily. I just started pulling plug wires until it made no difference, then changed plugs the miss stayed. I did a pressure check on that cyclinder and the pressure was 160 psi so that iliminated the engine. We changed the injector and the problem was solved, now we have another problem, but I need the test equipment to find it so I am waiting my turn..........

I just came back from my mechanic...I have similar problem with a 2001 Mazda Tribute LX on #3 Cylinder. I have spent $400 to change the coil on #3 cylinder...and replaced all the fuel injectors this past weekend.

Yesterday the check engine light came on in the morning...and then by lunch time starting flashing...my mechanic said that could be bad for the catalytic converter...tomorrow he will check the pressure on #3 cylinder...and hope its nothing...i have spent over $1,100 already...i am hoping it does not come down to doing a valve job

PS...the car starts to idle during cold starts...after it has been warmed up for 1/2hr it runs like a champ..?
